136 Years of Service to the Nation                                               Virtual Jetty commissioned at Saugor for handling deep drafted Vessel.                                                                                                         The security of Kolkata Port has been raised to Level-2 of the ISPS Code.


            

CURRENT AND FUTURE PLAN

A broad spectrum of modernisation, renovation and replacement programme is currently underway at Kolkata Port to build cargo volume which primarily encompasses,  replacement/ modernisation of port craft, upgradation of VTMS, construction, maintenance and management of berths under private sector participation, construction of pilotage facilities, development of infrastructure facilities including road/rail connectivity, procurement of  RTG cranes, construction of jetties including those at Saugor Anchorage,  replacement/ procurement of two ship-shore gantry cranes etc,  modernization of  computerisation system etc. Apart from these, other developmental initiatives including inovation of mobile harbour cranes, revamping of railway systems, construction of virtual jetties at Saugor, exploration of option  for transloading of dry bulk traffic / construction of floating terminal at Sandheads etc. are being implemented / planned which would go a long way in modernizing the port facilities aimed at cargo expansion. 

            10th Plan :

            In the 10th plan around Rs.768 crores has been proposed for various plan schemes to be undertaken at Kolkata Port, the details of which are highlighted below.  This would be funded through Internal Resources, Grant-in-Aid etc.

             The 10th Five Year Plan embraces, among others, the following works deemed important for the development of the port.

Haldia Dock Complex :

1. Procurement of Two Ship-Shore Gantry Cranes for container handling at a cost of  Rs.28.50 Crores each.

2.  Development of Road infrastructure including drainage etc. inside and outside the dock at a sanctioned cost of  Rs.30.00 Crores.

3.  Procurement of 4 RTG Cranes  at a sanctioned cost of  Rs.36.24 Crores.

4. Improvement of back-up area with railway connectivity inside the dock at a cost of  Rs.30.00 Crores.

5.  Construction of a Barge Handling Jetty at a cost of  Rs.10.00 Crores.

6.  Development of 2nd Dock Arm [1st phase] at an indicative cost of  Rs.95.00 Crores.

7.  Construction of Berth No.2 (South end of Berth No.3) at a cost of Rs.25.00 Crores.

8.  Procurement of 2 Nos. Stacker cum Reclaimer for coal handling at a cost of Rs.10.00 Crores

Kolkata Dock System :

1.  Construction of mooring berth at Saugor Anchorage at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 8.30 Crores.

 

2.  Construction of Pilotage facilities at a cost involment Rs. 12 Crores.

 

3.  Modernisation / upgradation of VTMS at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 7.20 Crores.

 

4. Modernisation / replacement of port craft at an indicative cost of  Rs. 90.00 Crores through  grant from Government.

 

5. Replacement / refurbishment / acquisition of various cargo handling equipment at an indicative cost of  Rs. 25.00 Crores through grant from Government.

 

 

River Regulatory Works :

             A scheme for River Regulatory measures for improvement of draft in Hooghly Estuary  at a cost involvement of  Rs.350.84 crores  is expected to be taken up in the 10th Plan. The detailed cost components of the scheme are being recast in terms of recommendations forwarded by an institue of national repute.
