Kolkata Port felicitates Port Users on 136th Anniversary

 

 

On 17th October, 2006 Kolkata Port celebrated its 136th anniversary. On this occasion, the port organised KoPT Anniversary Lecture which has been delivered by Dr Ashesh Prosad Mitra, Fellow of Royal Society and Scientist of Eminence, on “The Changing World and the Implication for Bengal” while Prof. Sukanta Chaudhuri, Senior Professor of English, and Director of  School of Cultural Texts and Records, Jadavpur University delivered the Key Note Address on “The Port, the City and the World”.

 

            Kolkata Port handled 53.14 million tonnes of traffic in 2005-06. Only two Indian Major Ports have achieved the distinction of handling more than 50 million tonnes of traffic. The port registered a growth of more than 15% which is higher than average growth of 10% registered by Indian Major Ports. The port ranked second during the last consecutive two years among Indian Major Ports in terms of volume of traffic handled.  During the last 4 years Kolkata Port registered the highest absolute rise in traffic among Indian Major Ports. The present share of traffic of Kolkata Port is 12.5%. 

           

            In recognition of the contribution made by the Importers, Exporters, Shipping lines, Steamer Agents, Container Operators, MLOs, Stevedores, C & F Agents etc., the port felicitated key port users who played a prominent role in routing their cargo and vessels through Kolkata Port.  

 

             The port would have been happy to felicitate all the Port Users who have contributed to the growth of Kolkata Port’s traffic. However, since it is not possible to felicitate all the port users individually because of time limitation, the port extends warm and sincere gratitude to all of them.

Category :  Bringing maximum parcel size to Kolkata Port.

 

 

            The most prestigious award was awarded to M/s Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.  for bringing highest parcel size vessel ‘M.T. AL GARVE’, to Kolkata Port,  ever to visit any Indian Port. The vessel brought 2,84,494 tonnes of POL Crude at Sand heads in November, 2005.
